Loti Woods, Joe Madison, & Dale Weiler at the acclimation pen
Before being released into the wild, red wolves are placed into an acclimation pen - or temporary enclosure - to give the wolf some time to adjust to the weather, sounds, smells, and diet of their new home.
In 2022, US Fish & Wildlife Services (USFWS) announced 10 red wolves would soon be on their way to the acclimation pen at Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge. But then, the pen was damaged by bears. Swift action was needed. That is when Loti and Dale of Weiler Woods for Wildlife jumped in and funded the new and improved mobile acclimation pen, just in time for the wolves to arrive.
