Red wolf in a yellow field at Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge by Justin Grubb
Why do most adult red wolves in the wild have bright orange collars on?
For various good reasons including:
(1) the collar acts as a reflector to help minimize accidents with vehicles.
(2) to help prevent red wolves from being misidentified as coyotes by hunters, and
(3) to allow the recovery team on the ground to track the wolves.
